A Fairytale Beginning at the Kentucky Castle
Set among the rolling hills of Versailles, Kentucky, the Kentucky Castle is nothing short of extraordinary. With its turrets, manicured grounds, and undeniable presence, it instantly sets the tone for an elegant, memorable, and unique celebration. Jamie and Blake chose the castle not just for its beauty but also because it matched their sense of grandeur and occasion.
Not every day you get to design wedding invitations for a literal castle wedding, and I was all in.
A Chic Engagement Party with Modern Vibes
Before Jamie and Blake tied the knot, they threw an engagement party that was equal parts modern and personal. I had the joy of creating their invitation suite, which leaned into a contemporary aesthetic. We used a semi-transparent vellum overlay with elegant typography placed over a black-and-white photo of the couple. It felt clean, stylish, and full of personality.
One of my favorite details? The envelope liner I designed, featuring a sketch of champagne glasses stacked in a tower—a little hint at the celebration to come. Even in these smaller touches, the spirit of the Kentucky Castle and the couple’s excitement came through loud and clear.
Setting the Tone with Save the Dates
When guests receive their first piece of mail for a wedding, that moment of anticipation is everything. For Jamie and Blake’s save the dates, we wanted to channel the fairytale feeling of the Kentucky Castle while hinting at the playful joy the couple is known for.
The envelopes opened to reveal a custom illustration of their monogram, a classic JB, in gold foil, of course, like a secret peek into the storybook setting to come. On the front, more gold foil details echoed the castle’s elegance, while classic script typography and a blush envelope spoke to the romance and warmth the couple radiates.
The Wedding Invitation Suite: A Royal Affair
When the time came to design their full custom wedding invitation suite, we wanted each piece to feel like it belonged in the halls of the Kentucky Castle. Think timeless elegance, romantic details, and a touch of drama.
Here’s what their suite included:
-
A gatefold main invitation wrapped in a blush satin ribbon
-
Gold foil accents that highlighted their names and the venue
-
A custom monogram crest, used across multiple pieces for a cohesive feel
-
Delicate floral illustrations to mirror their wedding day florals
Every part of the suite was printed on luxurious cotton paper with a slight texture, because when your venue is a castle, your invitations should feel just as regal.

A Monogram with Meaning: Branding the Celebration
One of my favorite elements from Jamie and Blake’s Kentucky Castle wedding was the custom monogram we designed just for them. More than just pretty initials, their monogram became the visual anchor of the entire celebration. It wove through every touchpoint, from the invitation suite to the reception signage and dinner menus.
Inspired by the elegance of the castle’s architecture, we gave their monogram a regal flair with flourished lettering and a vintage touch. It wasn’t just about style, it was about storytelling. Their initials, entwined with ornate detail, created a signature look that guests instantly associated with the couple’s unique wedding aesthetic.
We then enveloped their monogram in a regal, family crest, featuring their beloved goldendoodle, Tyler. This piece will be something that gets passed down through generations as a reminder of the legacy their marriage began.
This kind of cohesive visual branding is one of the ways stationery becomes more than just paper; it becomes part of the guest experience. It sets the mood, sparks anticipation, and creates lasting impressions before a single flower is placed or a song played.
Wedding Day Details That Wowed
Jamie and Blake’s wedding day was truly one for the books, unfolding beautifully at the iconic Kentucky Castle. To carry their stationery story from the ceremony through the reception, we created day-of details that were both functional and elegant:
-
Escort Display: Guests were greeted with individually boxed pastel macarons, each labeled with a personalized name tag and table number.
-
Signage: A custom sign read “Love is Sweet, Please Take Your Seat”, putting a playful twist on the traditional seating chart.
-
Menus: Each place setting featured a menu adorned with the couple’s golden crest, neatly tucked into soft napkins and set atop fine china.
-
Bar Menu: A framed ivory bar menu listed all beer, wine, and spirits, accented with floral illustrations to match the invitation suite.
-
Audio Guestbook: A clear acrylic sign invited guests to leave heartfelt messages, blending seamlessly with the classic, polished aesthetic.

A Celebration Worth Remembering
Designing for a venue as iconic as the Kentucky Castle gave me endless inspiration. The stonework, the turrets, the gardens—each element influenced the textures, colors, and flourishes in the stationery. But what truly brought it to life was working with Jamie and Blake. They were the kind of couple every creative hopes for: thoughtful, trusting, and passionate about the details. They believed, as I do, that stationery is more than just a way to share information; it’s the beginning of the story.
When guests feel the care and intention behind each paper element, it elevates everything. The anticipation, the joy, the connection. Their wedding wasn’t just a celebration. It was a full-sensory experience, from the first envelope opened to the final toast. Contributing to that journey and helping to carry a visual thread through every detail was an honor I won’t soon forget.
